Overview:

Introduction:

This training is designed to equip educators with the specialized knowledge and skills necessary to support special needs learners in inclusive classrooms effectively. Participants will gain a deep understanding of various learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and other special needs, enabling them to implement effective strategies and interventions.

Program Outline:

Unit 1:

Understanding Special Needs and Inclusive Education:

  • Exploring various special needs, including learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, and emotional and behavioral disorders.

  • Understanding the benefits of inclusive education and the legal requirements for providing a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) to all students.

  • Developing and implementing effective IEPs to address the unique needs of special needs learners.

  • Applying UDL principles to create inclusive learning environments that benefit all students.

  • Building strong partnerships with parents and caregivers to support special needs learners.

Unit 2:

Assessment and Identification of Special Needs:

  • Understanding various screening and assessment tools used to identify special needs.

  • Implementing differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of students in the classroom.

  • Providing appropriate accommodations and modifications to support special needs learners' access to the curriculum.

  • Exploring assistive technology tools and strategies to support students with disabilities.

  • Developing strategies for managing challenging behaviors and creating a positive classroom environment

Unit 3:

Effective Instructional Strategies for Special Needs Learners:

  • Using explicit instruction techniques to teach skills and concepts to special needs learners.

  • Utilizing visual aids, hands-on activities, and multisensory approaches to support learning.

  • Implementing cooperative learning strategies to promote peer collaboration and social skills.

  • Providing scaffolded instruction and gradually releasing responsibility to students as they develop skills.

  • Modifying curriculum and assessments to meet the needs of special needs learners while maintaining high academic standards.

Unit 4:

Supporting Students with Specific Learning Disabilities:

  • Understanding the characteristics of dyslexia and dysgraphia and providing effective support strategies.

  • Addressing the challenges faced by students with ADHD and implementing strategies to support their learning.

  • Understanding the spectrum of autism and providing appropriate accommodations and support for students with ASD.
